Public Appeal
In my opinion, the Islamic Republic is using negotiations with the international community to divert attention from its continued repression of political opponents, including public executions. I believe this tactic has been used repeatedly, and I do not believe the authorities are genuinely interested in meaningful negotiations.
Regardless of political developments, the Islamic Republic must immediately halt executions and public hangings. The United Nations Human Rights Office and international human rights organizations have expressed serious concern that recent executions have been used to instill fear and suppress dissent.
Negotiations with the international community should not distract the world from ongoing human rights concerns. Diplomatic engagement and accountability for human rights must go hand in hand.
I call on governments, international organizations, and human rights advocates to continue monitoring the situation closely, to speak out against executions and violations of due process, and to urge the Iranian authorities to immediately halt executions and respect the fundamental human rights of all people.
Silence in the face of human rights abuses only encourages further violations. The international community must continue to support justice, accountability, and the protection of human dignity.
