Donald Trump’s new statement on North Korea and South Korea stopped me in my tracks. Trump said his relationship with Kim Jong Un remains “very good,” criticized U.S.–South Korean military exercises, and said he instructed Pete Hegseth to substantially reduce those exercises. I explain why I believe this sends a deeply troubling message to America’s ally South Korea—and why it matters for Ukraine as North Korea continues supporting Russia’s war.
