Today, there is interesting news from the Pokrovsk direction.
Here, the Ukrainian counteroffensive is expanding, with Ukrainian forces opening a second axis between Dobropillia and Druzhkivka to clear the remnants of the Russian troops trying to entrench themselves in the area. The Skala Assault Regiment, operating alongside the Twelfth Azov Brigade, launched clearing operations around Hruzke and Novomykolaivka, establishing a blocking line designed to stop Russian infiltration toward Druzhkivka.
The operation relied heavily on infantry because Russian troops had dispersed through interconnected forest belts. Ukrainian commanders divided the assault force across three routes, carefully bypassing mines before moving toward the predetermined Russian positions. Every Ukrainian group received specific objectives, including where to attack and approximately how many Russian soldiers were expected there.
Crossing open ground was particularly dangerous because Russian FPV drones were constantly searching for Ukrainian troops in an attempt to help Russians on the ground dig in the forest. However, due to their own drone reconnaissance, Ukrainian soldiers were informed that everyone ahead of them could be treated as hostile, while a commander monitored their movement through a drone’s live feed, warning assault groups whenever threats appeared.
After reaching their designated positions, Ukrainian soldiers concentrated inside the forest belts before beginning successive assaults. Close-range fighting followed, with some Ukrainian soldiers wounded, but the advance continued while other troops remained behind on the flanks. This became crucial when some Russian forces attempted to move behind the advancing Ukrainians and cut them off, but the Ukrainian soldiers waiting in ambush intercepted them instead.
The Ukrainians then captured Russian radios, creating an immediate advantage because they could hear Russian movements and learned that enemy soldiers intended to deploy anti-personnel mines ahead of the Ukrainian advance. Instead, the Russian groups were located and eliminated before completing their task.
Russian drone operators eventually identified the previous Ukrainian ambush position and attacked it with six drones, but the Ukrainians had already relocated and advanced another one hundred meters, discovering another Russian position and eliminating it through coordinated action. After each position was cleared, Ukrainian soldiers consolidated while fresh groups moved through them to continue the attack.
Where Russian resistance became stronger, Skala requested support from Azov drone operators, who struck Russian positions before infantry advanced. This created a repeating cycle: locate, strike, assault, consolidate, and introduce another group to build on the success so far. Eventually, Skala cleared the new Russian attempt to resurrect the pincer, allowing the Azov Brigade to introduce consolidation forces.
The broader context makes this operation particularly important, as Ukrainian forces were already attacking from the Dobropillia direction after clearing Russian infiltrators south of Hruzke, so Russia subsequently attempted to shift infiltration farther east toward Novomykolaivka. Capturing positions there could have reopened a vector toward Druzhkivka and ultimately increased pressure against the wider Kramatorsk defensive area. Instead, the First Azov Corps, reinforced by Skala, continued systematically searching the forests and eliminating Russian infiltration groups, which effectively creates a second Ukrainian counteroffensive axis alongside the continuing operations around Dobropillia. Rather than merely reacting to individual Russian infiltrations, Ukrainian forces are attempting to construct a continuous protective belt south of Druzhkivka, denying Russia the ability to transform scattered infiltration groups into a sustainable breakthrough.
Overall, the Ukrainian Pokrovsk counteroffensive is therefore becoming more than simply eliminating the original Russian penetration. Ukraine is expanding sideways, securing the approaches toward Druzhkivka and constructing another defensive barrier. If this continues, Russia’s attempt to exploit the area toward Druzhkivka and threaten Kramatorsk risks being dismantled before it can develop into something significant.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an “energy ceasefire,” but offered no details on its terms.
Trump’s brief social media post said only that the ceasefire took effect immediately and that both sides had agreed to it. “Do not break it!” he wrote. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv immediately commented on the announcement, and The White House did not immediately clarify the president’s post or add detail.

Today, there is interesting news from the Liman direction.
Here, Ukraine’s Third Army Corps has used a series of unconventional battlefield tactics near Liman, with the most prominent one transforming an obsolete armored personnel carrier into a massive unmanned kamikaze vehicle to destroy a Russian strongpoint blocking the Ukrainian advance toward Nove.
The vehicle chosen was a BTR Sixty belonging to the Third Separate Assault Brigade. It was old, damaged, and no longer suitable for normal combat, but remained mobile. Instead of abandoning it, Ukrainian engineers installed cameras and a remote-control system, filled the armored vehicle with explosives, and turned it into a giant ground kamikaze drone.
The target was a fortified Russian position interfering with a simultaneous Ukrainian assault into Nove, with Russian troops protected underground, meaning smaller explosive-carrying ground drones or bomber drones might only partially damage the position without completely destroying it, so Ukraine needed something significantly more powerful.
The full-sized BTR provided exactly that, as its large internal volume allowed engineers to load a far greater quantity of explosives than any conventional ground drone could carry, while its armor and off-road mobility increased its chances of reaching the target. A reconnaissance drone followed overhead and helped correct its route as the unmanned vehicle approached the Russian position. The remote control meant no Ukrainian crew had to risk their lives during what was effectively a one-way mission. Once the BTR reached the strongpoint, it detonated, producing an explosion comparable in scale to the effect of a Kab glide bomb and destroyed the Russian stronghold, allowing the subsequent Ukrainian ground assault on Nove to proceed without hinder.
The Ukrainian NC Thirteen drone unit has also experimented within Operation Vivaldi by equipping small kamikaze ground robots with two disposable Bullspike grenade launchers. They were transported behind Russian lines by another unmanned platform before being released near enemy positions. They then approached the Russian fortifications in a building and fired their grenade launchers directly into them before finally moving closer and detonating themselves to finish off everyone inside.
The psychological effect of such operations is substantial, as Russian soldiers up to ten kilometers behind the frontline would normally never expect to suddenly receive short-range direct fire. Grenades arriving from nearby therefore create the impression that Ukrainian infantry has penetrated deep into the rear, causing additional panic and chaos among the Russian troops.
The Russian commanders, after receiving reports of apparent Ukrainian assault groups, can redirect reinforcements or react to a penetration that does not actually exist, while the Ukrainian robots can suppress and destroy the Russian positions and set up an ambush for the coming additional Russian troops.
At the same time, the Ukrainians also started using hand-held reconnaissance drones to provide surveillance, guidance, and tactical flexibility, while infantry moved forward after the Russian defenses were already disrupted. That creativity has become particularly important in a battlefield dominated by drones, where conventional frontal assaults can produce enormous casualties.
Overall, Operation Vivaldi has demonstrated the functional value of the Ukrainian drone experiments, as the Third Army Corps is increasingly pushing machines into the most dangerous part of the assault first, preserving soldiers for clearing and consolidation. By combining massive unmanned breaching vehicles with smaller armed ground robots designed to create confusion behind Russian lines, Ukrainian forces break fortified positions, generate chaos, and then move assault troops against an enemy already shaken before direct combat even begins. Together, these tactics demonstrate how the Third Army Corps is reimagining drone warfare during Operation Vivaldi and is adapting different machines to specific battlefield problems.

Today, the biggest news comes from the Huliaipole direction.
Here, Russian forces are reigniting their infamous mechanized offensives in a desperate bid to overturn their stalling progress. Ukrainians however, are demonstrating furiously how they seek to counter Russia’s new plans.
Recently released footage shows how Russian forces are massively up-armoring their remaining armored vehicle reserves, trying to protect them against Ukrainian strikes. Rollers mounted on the front of the tanks are meant to trigger Ukrainian anti-tank mines and other explosives from destroying either the vehicle itself or its tracks. Massive cages mounted with steel wires protruding from them like a porcupine add several layers of additional defenses against incoming Ukrainian FPV drones. While these provide effective cover for the tanks, any gaps left in the armor for any reason at all become an immediate target for Ukrainian pilots. Additionally, Ukrainians have discovered that while the extra armor cages around the vehicle protect it against direct strikes, dropped munitions are extremely effective against them. Through this, vehicles are quickly struck and immobilized as the crew and infantry assault groups are forced to dismount the now compromised vehicle. If this happens in the middle of a field as is often the case, the Russian foot soldiers are as good as dead with Ukrainian kamikaze drones swarming around the massive target.
In this sector, Russians are targeting the provincial capital of Zaporizhia city. Defended by the newly repositioned Ukrainian seventh air assault army corps, the area is quickly becoming a new focal point for the Russian autumn offensive. All across the corps new area of responsibility, Russian forces have been launching these probing assaults with heavily up-armored mechanized vehicles. Frequently these attacks are accompanied by Russian soldiers driving motorbikes or other all-terrain vehicles, trying to quickly advance and make it to forward positions while the big armored tank soaks up Ukrainian fire and attention. However as Ukrainians have repeatedly shown, these fast-moving Russian assaulters rarely make it to their mission target alive.
The reason for the sudden reversal of Russian infiltration tactics is explained by Ukraine’s Azov Army Corps Commander Denys Prokopenko. He recently discussed how the autumn season completely removes the foliage on the tree lines and forests that cover Ukraine’s southern and eastern fields. This foliage has been a crucial component in the Russian infiltration tactics that they have been using during the spring and summer months over the past two years, as it made detection of Russian infantry significantly more difficult. Additionally, the approaching autumn rains will turn much of Ukraine’s eastern fields into a thick and deep mud in the low grounds. This in turn further limits the possible avenues for infiltration to high ground only, making it easier for Ukrainians to concentrate their efforts on detecting advancing enemy soldiers. Coincidentally, high ground also means much stronger signal strength for Ukrainian drones, reducing their reliance on repeater drones or high-placed antennas.
As infiltrations become less viable as an effective offensive tactic for Russia, armored assaults remain as the only option to sustain offensive pressure on Ukraine. However, as the war continues to develop and evolve, they must first find counters to all of Ukraine’s new weapon systems and tactics. These first assaults have primarily used existing Russian tactics they used last year to try and advance with their armored vehicles. As Ukrainians have expertly demonstrated that they are able to effectively counter these tactics, Russians must find a new way of advancing through mechanized warfare if they want any hope of retaining overall pressure on Ukraine throughout the autumn and winter months.
Overall, Russia’s mechanized probing assaults have failed to deliver them the desired results. Attacks using heavily up-armored vehicles that only rarely worked the year before are now shown to be even less effective through Ukraine’s increased availability of bomber drones, FPV drones, and pilots that allow them to take out both the fast-moving all-terrain vehicles and the heavy armor simultaneously. Russians must now find a new way to keep their armored assaults alive, while using up their scarce reserves in the meantime just to keep the pressure going.

Mounting U.S. military pressure and a tightening economic embargo have left Iran’s regime searching for negotiations, political intervention, or any other escape route.
Trump’s greatest mistake now would be easing the pressure when the regime may be approaching the point of collapse or losing its ability to wage war through terrorist proxies, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In a Few Words.”
