دونالد ترامپ در تازه‌ترین سخنان خود اعلام کرد نه قصد اعزام نیروی زمینی آمریکا به ایران را دارد و نه از سلاح هسته‌ای استفاده خواهد کرد. با این حال، او احتمال حمله به تاسیسات زیرزمینی هسته‌ای جمهوری اسلامی را کنار نگذاشت و گفت مجموعه کلنگ‌گزلا زیر نظر آمریکاست. هم‌زمان گزارش‌هایی منتشر شده که نشان می‌دهد پنتاگون گزینه‌های تازه‌ای از جمله استفاده از بمب عظیم غیرهسته‌ای موسوم به «مادر همه بمب‌ها» را بررسی کرده است.

در عراق نیز انتصاب لیث الخزعلی به معاونت نخست‌وزیری با واکنش شدید جو ویلسون روبه‌رو شد. این نماینده جمهوری‌خواه کنگره، الخزعلی را تروریست تحریم‌شده و مهره جمهوری اسلامی خواند. در لبنان نیز مارکو روبیو با رییس‌جمهوری این کشور درباره صدها کیلوگرم مواد منفجره توقیف‌شده حزب‌الله گفت‌وگو کرده و خواستار شناسایی و مجازات عوامل این محموله شده است.
در جبهه نظامی، سنتکام روایت سپاه درباره غرق‌شدن کشتی سنگاپوری در تنگه هرمز را رد کرده و می‌گوید این کشتی نه بر اثر برخورد با مین، بلکه با پرتابه سپاه هدف قرار گرفته است. گزارش دیگری نشان می‌دهد آمریکا در جریان جنگ ایران حدود ۸۲ درصد ذخایر موشک‌های رهگیر تاد خود را مصرف کرده و بازسازی کامل این ذخایر ممکن است تا سال ۲۰۳۰ طول بکشد.
مسعود پزشکیان نیز برای نخستین بار گفته است ۱۵۰۰ نیروی نظامی جمهوری اسلامی هنگام فعالیت در محل پرتابگرهای موشکی کشته شده‌اند. این اعتراف در حالی مطرح می‌شود که حکومت همچنان آمار تفکیک‌شده و شفافی از تلفات جنگ منتشر نکرده است.
در آمریکا، دو نماینده جمهوری‌خواه و دموکرات طرحی برای گسترش اینترنت آزاد در ایران ارائه کرده‌اند. استفاده از ارتباط مستقیم ماهواره با تلفن همراه، سیم‌کارت الکترونیکی، وی‌پی‌ان و شبکه‌های غیرمتمرکز از محورهای این طرح است. وزیر خارجه آلمان نیز هشدار داده که اروپا در تیررس جمهوری اسلامی قرار دارد و برلین تروریسم حکومتی تهران را تحمل نخواهد کرد.

تنش در تنگه هرمز بار دیگر بالا گرفته است. سپاه پاسداران مدعی شد یک شناور نظامی بدون سرنشین آمریکا را که قصد ورود به منطقه حفاظت‌شده تنگه هرمز داشت، هدف قرار داده است. نیروی دریایی سپاه نیز اعلام کرد در واکنش به حمله آمریکا به سه نفتکش جمهوری اسلامی، سه نفتکش و سه شناور وابسته به آمریکا را هدف قرار داده است. هم‌زمان سنتکام گفت نیروهای آمریکایی در جریان اجرای محاصره دریایی ایران، مسیر ۹۲ کشتی تجاری را تغییر داده، سه کشتی را از کار انداخته و وارد دو کشتی شده‌اند. یک جنگنده رادارگریز اف‌۳۵ای آمریکا نیز بر فراز آب‌های منطقه گشت‌زنی کرده است.
نیویورک‌تایمز گزارش داده با وجود عملیات حفاظتی آمریکا، عبور نفت از تنگه هرمز همچنان حدود ۶۰ درصد کمتر از پیش از جنگ است. براساس این گزارش، از دهم تیر تا نهم شهریور دست‌کم ۲۳ کشتی در حملات ایران هدف قرار گرفته‌اند و هزینه بیمه خطر جنگ برای عبور هر نفتکش ممکن است از ۱۰ میلیون دلار فراتر برود. سخنگوی سنتکام گفته آمریکا به عبور حدود ۱۶۰۰ کشتی تجاری و ۸۰۰ میلیون بشکه نفت از تنگه هرمز کمک کرده است.
اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا، می‌گوید احتمالا فقط حدود ۳۰ میلیون بشکه نفت ایران باقی مانده که چین هنوز نخریده است. او محاصره و تحریم‌ها را بخشی از عملیات «طرد اقتصادی» حکومت ایران خواند و گفت آمریکا کنترل تنگه هرمز را در اختیار دارد. پیت هگست، وزیر دفاع آمریکا، نیز هشدار داد اگر جمهوری اسلامی به کشتی‌های آمریکایی شلیک کند، واشینگتن نفتکش‌های ایران را منهدم و غرق خواهد کرد. در مقابل، سخنگوی سپاه مدعی شد هر یک دلار خسارت اقتصادی به ایران، چندین دلار برای آمریکا هزینه خواهد داشت.
در کنار محاصره دریایی، نشانه‌هایی از ایجاد محدودیت در مسیرهای زمینی ایران نیز دیده می‌شود. تصاویری از مرز پیشین در سیستان و بلوچستان نشان می‌دهد شمار زیادی کامیون ایرانی پشت مرز پاکستان متوقف مانده‌اند. رانندگان می‌گویند پاکستان بدون اطلاع قبلی، برای ورود هر خودروی سنگین مبلغی معادل دو میلیارد و ۳۰۰ میلیون تومان تعیین کرده است. این اتفاق از آن جهت مهم است که پاکستان یکی از هفت کشوری بود که نامش در گزارش تلگراف درباره طرح آمریکا و اسرائیل برای محاصره زمینی ایران مطرح شد. پاکستان در آوریل شش مسیر زمینی میان بنادر گوادر، کراچی و قاسم و گذرگاه‌های مرزی گبد و تفتان فعال کرده بود تا به یکی از مسیرهای جایگزین جمهوری اسلامی برای دور زدن محاصره دریایی تبدیل شود.
هم‌زمان بنیامین نتانیاهو با اشاره به تلاش جمهوری اسلامی برای بازسازی برنامه هسته‌ای و نیروهای نیابتی خود گفت اسرائیل باید کاری را که آغاز کرده، تمام کند. یک مقام ایرانی نیز هشدار داد هرگونه مشارکت نظامی کره جنوبی در تامین امنیت کشتیرانی در تنگه هرمز، به معنای ورود مستقیم سئول به جنگ خواهد بود. شبکه العربیه هم از کشته شدن چهار ایرانی و لبنانی در حمله به یک مرکز فرماندهی حوثی‌ها در استان الجوف یمن خبر داده است.
در داخل جمهوری اسلامی نیز اختلاف‌ها بر سر ادامه جنگ آشکارتر شده است. حسن روحانی گفته اگر قرار است ایران ۲۰ سال دیگر با قدرت‌های بزرگ بجنگد، باید ابتدا از مردم پرسید و هیچ‌کس از جانب خود یا خدا حاکم نیست. در مقابل، مهدی چمران، رییس شورای شهر تهران، خواستار اقدام عملی جمهوری اسلامی در حمایت از حزب‌الله و پاسخ به حملات اسرائیل شده است. احمد بخشایش اردستانی، عضو کمیسیون امنیت ملی مجلس، نیز مدعی شده در صورت طولانی شدن جنگ، احتمال دارد دونالد ترامپ از بمب هسته‌ای استفاده کند.
در تحولات داخلی، وکیل محمدباقر خرازی، روحانی بازداشت‌شده و از بستگان مجتبی خامنه‌ای، گفته وزارت امور خارجه، دبیرخانه شورای عالی امنیت ملی و معاونت حقوقی ریاست‌جمهوری علیه موکلش به دادسرای ویژه روحانیت گزارش داده‌اند. ساندی‌تایمز نیز گزارش داده دو آپارتمان لوکس مرتبط با مجتبی خامنه‌ای در لندن که به قیمت ۳۶ میلیون پوند خریداری شده بودند، پس از تحریم علی انصاری برای فروش عرضه شده‌اند.

Today, there is important news from the Zaporizhia direction.

Here, Russian forces attempted to exploit the marshlands of the former Kakhovka Reservoir to stage a surprise advance toward Zaporizhzhia. However, the Ukrainian special forces turned the Russian infiltration operation into a Vietnam-style ambush that the Russians wouldn’t forget soon.

Despite the reality on the ground, the Russian Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, announced that Russian troops had captured Malokaterynivka and were only five kilometers from Zaporizhzhia, while Vladimir Putin publicly repeated the claim, presenting it as another major Russian success.

The Russian operation unfolded across the former bed of the Kakhovka Reservoir, emptied after the destruction of the dam in two-thousand-twenty-three by the Russian army. Since then, dense vegetation has spread across the exposed terrain, creating an extraordinary landscape of young forests, marshes, and narrow waterways as the Dnipro River returns toward its original course, with the freed-up land giving fruitful ground for new plants to grow.

The environment, resembling a tropical jungle more than the conventional Ukrainian battlefield, offered Russian infiltration groups an opportunity. Dense foliage obstructs aerial reconnaissance, limits drone visibility, and allows small groups to move beneath the trees without immediately revealing their positions. Russian commanders hoped to exploit these conditions to reach Ukrainian-held territory, record another symbolic flag-planting video so their higher command could claim advancing toward Zaporizhzhia.

However, the Ukrainian military intelligence anticipated the danger and released footage showing soldiers from its Timur Special Forces Unit conducting counter-sabotage operations inside the vegetation. The Ukrainian soldiers wore specialized ghillie suits, allowing them to blend into the surrounding trees and undergrowth. The denseness of the vegetation proved as negative to the Russians as the positive they hoped to exploit, because it made it extremely difficult to traverse, making their infiltration routes extremely limited. And that is where Ukrainians set up their ambushes, establishing concealed positions and waiting for Russian infiltrators to fall into the trap.

The first Russian soldier encountered refused an opportunity to surrender and was killed. Another immediately dropped his weapon and lay on the ground, becoming a prisoner. When additional Russians ignored Ukrainian calls to surrender, the Ukrainian group requested thermal-imaging drone support. The drone helped identify concealed soldiers beneath the vegetation, while aerial explosives forced them from their hiding places.

Ukrainian troops subsequently discovered the eliminated infiltrators and continued clearing the area. Soon, another Russian group appeared, triggering a close-range firefight among the dense trees. One Russian soldier was killed, while another was captured.

The Russians themselves wore camouflage clothing intended to conceal their movements, but their equipment proved insufficient against the coordinated Ukrainian reconnaissance and ambush. A Ukrainian heavy octocopter was then brought in against another infiltration group. Its attacks killed two Russian soldiers, while the remaining fighter surrendered; Ukrainian troops provided him first aid, bandaged his wounds, and took him prisoner.

The entire engagement demonstrated how difficult fighting inside these marshlands has become, as visibility is restricted, engagements occur at extremely short distances, and conventional aerial surveillance must be combined with concealed infantry and thermal reconnaissance. Yet despite these unsuccessful infiltration attempts, Gerasimov publicly declared that Russia was on the outskirts of Zaporhizhia city.

Ukraine responded by exposing the contradiction, as Maksym Kravchuk, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Group of Forces, rejected Gerasimov’s announcement and confirmed that Malokaterynivka remained under Ukrainian control. Soldiers from Ukraine’s one-hundred-twenty-eight Heavy Mechanized Brigade then recorded footage directly inside the settlement, publicly demonstrating their continued presence. Kravchuk also explained that Russian positions were approximately twenty-five kilometers from Zaporizhzhia’s southern outskirts, not five, and ridiculed the Russian command’s claims as another collection of fairy tales presented to Putin rather than an accurate description of the battlefield.

Overall, the result was particularly embarrassing because Russian forces had attempted to exploit one of the region’s most unusual environments, where thick vegetation offered opportunities for concealed movement.

Today, there are important updates from Russian-controlled Crimea.

Here, the entire Crimean coastline is turning into a permanent combat zone as Ukrainian naval drones bombard Russian positions along the shores. Ukrainian forces are now waging a sustained coastal harassment campaign, forcing Russian soldiers to live under constant threat of sudden strikes.

Russian forces sounded an alarm and released footage of one Ukrainian naval drone equipped with Shmel launchers for thermobaric rockets maneuvering near the Crimean coastline before an attack. The fast-moving vessels strike Russian troops concentrated on narrow spits, beaches, and exposed defensive outposts across Crimea. Ukrainian vessels stealthily approach shallow coastal zones near positions on spits like Arabat and Kinburn before unleashing salvos of thermobaric rockets directly into trenches, bunkers, and troop concentrations from launchers like Shmel.

Unlike conventional explosives, thermobaric warheads consume oxygen and create destructive blast waves and suction capable of inflicting lethal internal injuries even on soldiers hiding behind hard cover, such as inside trenches or concrete fortifications. Especially along confined beaches and spits where Russian troops are concentrated in limited space, this has the potential to become the most dangerous Ukrainian tactic used in the campaign.

Ukraine has simultaneously expanded these attacks by transforming naval drones into mobile launch platforms for FPV drones. Instead of serving only as kamikaze boats, they can now carry multiple FPV drones close to the Crimean coast before releasing them inland against Russian targets that are located deeper. This changes the battlefield, as they can bypass much of Russia’s layered frontline defenses and attack from unexpected directions at extremely short-range valuable targets, like radar systems, logistics hubs, coastal fortifications, boats, and air defense sites, before Russian electronic warfare systems can effectively respond.

The tactical advantages for Ukraine are enormous, as drones can rapidly approach at sea level with very low visibility, fire FPV drones from stand-off distances, and retreat before Russian forces can react effectively. By this, they spend far less time in the air, reducing exposure to jamming and interception, while being carried and launched by naval drones also extend the overall strike range. At the same time, FPV drones are cheaper than long-range drones, and Ukraine can launch coordinated saturation assaults that overwhelm Russian defenses through sheer numbers at a fraction of the cost of the equipment being destroyed. This allows Ukraine to inflict disproportionate losses with relatively cheap systems while avoiding risk to personnel, and while their constant strikes also exhaust Russian soldiers psychologically, forcing them to remain permanently alert under threat of sudden bombardment from the sea.

At the same time, Ukraine is systematically dismantling the three critical components of Russia’s coastal counter-drone network protecting Crimea that could pose a threat to the approaching naval drones. Firstly, Russian patrol boats used to intercept Ukrainian naval drones near the coastline are increasingly being destroyed. Ukrainian intelligence confirmed attacks on multiple Russian assault landing boats, support vessels, and patrol craft during operations around Crimea. Russian ships have even begun installing anti-drone netting in desperation to reduce damage from incoming naval drones.

The second element, Russian helicopters operating over the Black Sea, is also being eliminated. Ukraine destroyed Ka-twenty-seven attack helicopters and targeted Tor and Pantsir air defense systems used to detect and intercept naval drones at long range. These helicopters had previously been among Russia’s most effective anti-drone tools because they could rapidly intercept and engage unmanned boats far from shore.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian strikes are also degrading Russian maritime reconnaissance capabilities. Naval patrol aircraft, responsible for early warnings and surveillance over the Black Sea, have been hit at airfields and operational sites in recent days. Without aerial reconnaissance, Russian forces lose their ability to detect approaching naval drones at long distances, leaving coastal defenses increasingly blind.

Strategically, Ukraine is conducting a sustained attritional operation designed to make Crimea increasingly difficult and expensive for Russia to defend. Ukrainian operations are gradually fragmenting Crimea’s entire layered coastal defense network and creating safer corridors for Ukrainian naval drones to approach the coast and conduct uninterrupted bombardment operations. Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin wants peace. But Putin's own words and military orders tell a very different story. In a striking contrast between Washington's messaging and Moscow's actions, Putin calls for continued massive strikes against Ukraine, praises Russia's battlefield operations, and makes clear that key Russian security demands will not be open to peace negotiations.

Tonight, Greg Terry puts Trump and Putin's statements side by side and lets you decide. We examine Trump's suggestion that he possesses undisclosed information about how Russia's war began, revisit his August 2025 remarks and promises concerning Putin and the Epstein files, and hear Putin's latest orders to Russia's military commanders.
