Yesterday Russian drone operators hunted a civilian in the Ukrainian city of Kherson. This wasn’t a mistake, I mean Russians bragged about it and it’s unfortunately not unusual. The deliberate targeting of civilians, aid workers, elderly and children alike is so common in this area that it’s been dubbed the “Human Safari”.

Today, the most intense news is coming from the Liman direction.
Russians just unleashed a massive swarm of fixed-wing attack drones in an attempt to halt the Ukrainian advance in its tracks. Video footage shows how Russians launched waves of Molniya drones across the river and into the newly gained Ukrainian territory. These Russian Molniya drones are equipped with heavy explosives and sometimes even anti-tank landmines that cause major destruction when they hit. The dedicated interceptor drone unit codenamed Destroyer shared footage showing the interception of over sixty-six of these enemy strike drones over the ongoing Ukrainian Vivaldi operation in a single day. The Ukrainians have fully integrated interception capabilities into their frontline units, with the Destroyer unit integrated with the Ukrainian sixty-sixth Mechanized Brigade using dispersed radar systems to launch an interceptor drone within a minute of detecting an enemy UAV. Using various interceptor drones of similar design, they are then able to neutralize the Russian waves with remarkable efficiency.
When looking at the situation on the ground, Ukrainians are advancing way faster than the Russians expected, and liberating far more territory than they had imagined. This even caused problems for Ukrainians however, who were advancing so deep that they threatened to move out of the cover of their fire-support units. The entire Ukrainian kill-chain of observation and strike drones, artillery, logistics, and command staff now has to be moved to the new line of contact. By launching the intense Molniya drone barrage, Russians were attempting to strike Ukrainians in the midst of this movement, hoping to prevent and undermine Ukrainians from getting ready to cross the river next. However, they were not expecting Ukraine to have already moved forward their frontline drone interception units, and their barrage was taken out in mid-air.
Notably, Russians were trying to do more than just strike Ukrainian support units on the move, but were preparing to follow up with a major counteroffensive of their own. As Russians cannot afford to lose their bridgehead across the Zherebets River completely, they are desperately trying to take it back. The massive wave of frontline strike drones was the fire preparation that Russians could have needed for a counterattack to succeed. Counterattacking while Ukrainians are still reorganizing would be their only real chance of making any rapid clawback.
The reason why Russians cannot lose the bridgehead is that it allows Ukrainians to maintain a much more stable defense of Liman itself. Due to the Ukrainian counteroffensive, Russians are now over twenty-two kilometers removed from the nearest logistical strongpoint supplying Liman. This puts Ukrainian logistic hubs out of range of Russian tube and rocket artillery, as well as Russian FPV drones. While Russian FPV drones have the capability on paper to strike this deep, using FPV drones at such long ranges requires larger fixed-wing drones to serve as relays. And Ukrainians have just clearly demonstrated their capability to rapidly detect and destroy these fixed-wing type drones with ease, allowing supplies and reinforcements to arrive at the needed positions with no delay.
Overall, Ukrainians just destroyed the most massive Russian fire preparation launched in a single day. While Russians attempted to strike Ukrainian support units and staff while on the move and take advantage of their destruction with a follow-up counterattack, the cleverly integrated drone defenses were able to neutralize the Russian threat. As the Ukrainian kill-chain is being moved up to the new line of contact, Russian forces will soon be faced with a deadly choice: either throw their men into the Ukrainian meatgrinder, or suffer whatever the Ukrainian general staff has planned for them next.
I will show you AMAZING context today.
First, I examine Ukraine’s reported September 26 strike on the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia’s Rostov region, a facility reportedly linked to components for at least seven Russian missile programs and described as the sole supplier of two essential Kh-101 components. The confirmed strike’s real damage and effect on missile output remain unverified, but it raises a consequential question: can targeted attacks create production bottlenecks in Russia’s long-range strike arsenal? I also assess claims that 14 Russian refineries are offline, nine are operating at reduced capacity, and 97 refinery strikes have occurred this year.
I then turn to Russia’s 170-drone attack, Ukraine’s reported decline in drone interception rates from 86–90% earlier in the year to roughly 70%, and the challenge posed by jet-powered Geran drones. Finally, I look at Ukraine’s tactical shift against Russian reinforcements, the proposed Army of Robots, NC-13 kamikaze ground vehicles used in Operation Vivaldi, and the UN debate over mandatory human control of autonomous weapons.

Phase three of Operation Vivaldi is complete as Ukraine continues to advance during their counteroffensive in the east. The Third Army Corps has released footage saying they captured 250 Russian soldiers, the largest number in a single operation since the Kursk incursion two years ago.
Meanwhile, Russian sources are getting fed up with the false reports on their side and the problems that’s causing at the front. With some complaining that “there's no communication, no logistics, no drones to deliver even basic supplies like food and water to the positions.”

President Zelenskyy is warning that Ukraine expects a major Russian strike involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones within the next 24 hours, with particular concern focused on the overnight period. At the same time, Ukraine continues attacking Russia’s southern logistics network, with the main Chongar crossing now destroyed and Russian forces relying on temporary alternatives.
Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul delivers one of the clearest warnings yet about Vladimir Putin’s ambitions, arguing that Putin’s view of the Soviet collapse points toward an effort to reverse it—with Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, and the Baltic states directly implicated.
We also examine the confirmed movement of 30,000 metric tons of Belarusian potash through Russia’s Bronka port toward New Orleans, despite Lukashenko publicly claiming Belarus had no spare volumes available. And a growing diplomatic confrontation between Ukraine and South Korea could become increasingly important as tensions across the Indo-Pacific continue to deepen.

I examine President Zelensky’s decision to lift Ukraine’s three-day restraint on strikes against Russian refineries after he said Russia continued attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Zelensky cited a major Russian barrage involving 39 ballistic missiles and civilian deaths, while also voicing frustration at the absence of an immediate U.S. response. The strategic issue is whether an energy pause can survive when one side believes it is making unilateral concessions.
I also assess reported U.S. consideration of looser restrictions on shadow-fleet tankers, a proposed diesel arrangement, and a plan to place some of roughly $260 billion in frozen Russian assets under Washington’s control. With seven merchant vessels reportedly attacked in the Black Sea over two weeks near Romania and Bulgaria, the consequences extend beyond Ukraine: Moscow may be probing NATO’s willingness to defend maritime security and enforce pressure on Russia.

Ukraine’s deep-strike campaign continues at a punishing pace. The Ilsky and Syzran refineries were reportedly struck, additional Russian shadow-fleet vessels were targeted, and one Ukrainian drone was filmed evading three Russian air-defense missiles.
Yet the information environment has shifted toward pessimism—even as Russia’s territorial advances remain limited and its losses continue.
