خلاصه:
دونالد ترامپ اعلام کرد ایالات متحده برای انجام حمله دیگری به ایران آماده است و در صورت آغاز دوباره عملیات، این کارزار مدت زیادی ادامه نخواهد داشت. رییس‌جمهوری آمریکا گفت جمهوری اسلامی در حال بازسازی سامانه‌های راداری، موشکی و تجهیزات مین‌گذاری خود بود، اما آمریکا این تاسیسات را شناسایی و منهدم کرد.
ترامپ همچنین مدعی شد آمریکا کنترل بسیار محکمی بر تنگه هرمز دارد و نیروهای جمهوری اسلامی نمی‌توانند هیچ اقدامی را از دید ارتش آمریکا پنهان کنند. او در سخنانی دیگر گفت ایالات متحده در جنگ با جمهوری اسلامی «با اختلاف بسیار زیادی» در حال پیروزی است و بخش عمده توان دریایی، هوایی و تسلیحاتی ایران از بین رفته است.
هم‌زمان، وال‌استریت ژورنال گزارش داد بحث احتمال فروپاشی و تغییر حکومت در ایران بار دیگر در دولت ترامپ مطرح شده است. اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا، گفته فشار اقتصادی ممکن است جمهوری اسلامی را ظرف چند هفته یا چند ماه با فروپاشی روبه‌رو کند. سفیر آمریکا در ناتو نیز ایران را کشوری ورشکسته توصیف کرد و گفت مردم ایران حکومت را مسئول شرایط کنونی خواهند دانست و خواستار تغییر خواهند شد.
وزیر دفاع اسرائیل نیز هشدار داد اگر جمهوری اسلامی بار دیگر به اسرائیل حمله کند، تمام زیرساخت‌های ملی، نظامی و غیرنظامی ایران، از جمله زیرساخت‌های انرژی، هدف قرار خواهند گرفت. او فشار اقتصادی، نگرانی از قیام مردم و احتمال سقوط حکومت را عواملی دانست که ممکن است جمهوری اسلامی را به اقدامات از سر استیصال سوق دهد.
در همین حال، وال‌استریت ژورنال خبر داد پیت هگست استقرار بخشی از نیروهای آمریکا در خاورمیانه را تا سال ۲۰۲۷ تمدید کرده است. حدود ۵۰ هزار نیروی آمریکایی، ۱۹ ناو جنگی، دو ناو هواپیمابر، ۱۳ ناوشکن، جنگنده‌ها و یگان‌های پدافند هوایی همچنان در منطقه حضور دارند.
در تحولی دیگر، اکسیوس از دیدار استیو ویتکاف با طحنون بن زاید، مشاور امنیت ملی امارات، و رایزنی آنها درباره گام‌های بعدی در قبال بحران ایران خبر داد. این دیدار پس از توقف روابط تجاری و مالی امارات با جمهوری اسلامی و آغاز طرح تازه آمریکا برای افزایش فشار اقتصادی بر تهران انجام شده است.
تنگه هرمز نیز همچنان یکی از کانون‌های اصلی جنگ است. رویترز گزارش داد جمهوری اسلامی تعداد کشتی‌های قرارگرفته در فهرست سیاه خود را به ۵۶ فروند رسانده است. در مقابل، نفتکش‌ها با حمایت نیروی دریایی آمریکا، عمدتا شبانه و با خاموش کردن سامانه‌های ردیابی از مسیر نزدیک به عمان عبور می‌کنند. ترامپ مدعی شده حجم انتقال نفت از تنگه هرمز تقریبا به سطح پیش از جنگ بازگشته است.
در ایران نیز وزارت بهداشت شمار کشته‌شدگان حملات اخیر آمریکا را ۱۸ نفر و شمار مجروحان را ۱۴۲ نفر اعلام کرد. رسانه‌های داخلی کشته شدن سه خلبان و شش عضو نیروی دریایی ارتش جمهوری اسلامی را تایید کرده‌اند.

دولت دونالد ترامپ در تازه‌ترین موضع‌گیری خود اعلام کرده که فعلا قصد آغاز حملات گسترده نظامی علیه جمهوری اسلامی را ندارد و تمرکز واشینگتن بر تشدید محاصره دریایی، تحریم‌های تازه و فشار اقتصادی حداکثری است. مارکو روبیو گفته گزینه نظامی همچنان روی میز باقی می‌ماند و اگر جمهوری اسلامی علیه نیروهای آمریکایی اقدامی انجام دهد، واشینگتن پاسخ خواهد داد. اسکات بسنت نیز می‌گوید مقام‌های حکومت ایران به اثرگذاری فشارهای آمریکا اذعان کرده‌اند؛ ادعایی که با واکنش محمدباقر قالیباف روبه‌رو شد.
هم‌زمان، دونالد ترامپ از تکمیل عملیات پاکسازی مین‌ها در آب‌های بین‌المللی تنگه هرمز خبر داده و هشدار داده است هر شناوری که بار دیگر اقدام به مین‌گذاری کند، منهدم خواهد شد. مقام‌های آمریکایی مدعی‌اند جمهوری اسلامی کنترل تنگه هرمز را از دست داده و اکنون آمریکا بر این آبراه راهبردی تسلط دارد. در مقابل، تهران و مسقط درباره اجرای پروژه مشترک مین‌روبی و ایجاد یک گذرگاه موقت برای عبور کشتی‌ها گفت‌وگو کرده‌اند. مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی بازگشایی کامل تنگه را به رفع محاصره اقتصادی و پایان جنگ مشروط کرده‌اند، اما این شروط در بیانیه مشترک ایران و عمان دیده نمی‌شود.
فشار بر تجارت خارجی جمهوری اسلامی نیز افزایش یافته است. یازده نفتکش ایرانی تحت تحریم آمریکا در نزدیکی سواحل سریلانکا بلاتکلیف مانده‌اند و چند پالایشگاه هندی و شرکت بین‌المللی انرژی تصمیم گرفته‌اند همکاری با کشتی‌های قرارگرفته در فهرست سیاه تهران را متوقف کنند. تحریم‌های تازه آمریکا می‌تواند صادرات هند به ایران را نیز به‌شدت مختل کند و ترکیه هم خود را برای احتمال کاهش عرضه گاز آماده می‌کند. قطر از همکاری با تحریم‌هایی که در چارچوب بین‌المللی اعمال شوند خبر داده است.
در بخش سیاسی و امنیتی، بنیامین نتانیاهو اعلام کرد با ترامپ درباره سه گزینه توافق، اقدام نظامی یا تشدید محاصره ایران گفت‌وگو کرده است. یک مقام پیشین مجلس نیز گفت هیات پاکستانی در سفر به تهران حامل تهدیدهای تازه آمریکا بوده است. ترامپ بار دیگر درباره شلیک نیروهای جمهوری اسلامی به معترضان سخن گفت و تاکید کرد فشار اقتصادی و عملیات نظامی آمریکا هر دو موثر بوده‌اند.
در همین حال، سخنگوی نیروهای مسلح جمهوری اسلامی رسانه‌های فارسی‌زبان خارج از کشور و کارکنان آنها را اهداف نظامی خواند. مسعود پزشکیان گفت جنگ همیشه راه‌حل نیست و حکومت باید برای خروج از بحران به دنبال تدبیر و گفت‌وگو باشد. عباس عراقچی نیز در نامه‌ای به سازمان ملل، عملیات طرد اقتصادی آمریکا را غیرقانونی خواند و خواستار محکومیت آن شد. این تحولات نشان می‌دهد فشار اقتصادی، کنترل تنگه هرمز، آینده مذاکرات و احتمال بازگشت به درگیری نظامی همچنان مهم‌ترین محورهای رویارویی آمریکا و جمهوری اسلامی هستند.

Today, the most important news is coming from the Orikhiv direction. 

With Russians failing on so many fronts, Russian generals are ordering a mad dash to curry favor with Putin and achieve a victory for Russian media. However, overexcited Russian frontline reporters and the presence of highly skilled Ukrainian special forces on the Russian flanks might spell disaster for the new Russian redemption offensive. 

The main target of the Russian attacks is the Ukrainian town of Orikhiv, which Russians have failed to capture for over four-and-a-half years. Notably, the battle for the small town of Mala Tokmachka is the longest battle of the entire war in Ukraine lasting over one-thousand-six-hundred-twenty days. And despite sending in hundreds of soldiers now, it is still not under complete Russian control. 

The Russian plan is to first pressure Orkhiv, before surrounding and cutting off its main supply lines. To accomplish this, Russians first significantly increased the pressure on Mala Tokmachka and launched a massive infiltration effort against it from the south and east. Through this, Russians were finally able to establish a foothold in the town and spread their infiltrators across the remaining part of it. Next, Russians launched another major infiltration offensive against the town of Novodanylivka to the south, similarly establishing a foothold there, while also pushing their newly infiltrated forces into Orikhiv itself. Notably, while this secured three important tactical victories for Russia, the spread-out nature of their forces meant Russian soldiers on the ground found it difficult to fully consolidate their gains, with Ukrainian drone bombers flying round-the-clock sorties to strike their positions. 

Understanding that holding on to three footholds at once would not secure their much-needed victory, Russian forces opted to try to further encircle the town of Orikhiv before making their next push forward. In the west, Russians pressed forward their reserves and captured the town of Mali Shcherbaky. From here, they launched further intense infiltration efforts toward Tavriiske, Yurkivka, and Novopavlivka. While Ukrainians prevented Russians from capturing these towns or establishing a foothold here, the presence of Russian infiltrators made transporting logistics into Orikhiv much more dangerous. However, the Russians did not stop there; they soon also infiltrated the settlement of Chervona Krynytsia. Again, Russians failed to establish a foothold here, and many enemy soldiers were killed by drones in the open fields, while the presence of Russian soldiers in the village still meant that another Ukrainian logistics route into Orikhiv is under threat. 

Unfortunately for Russians, while their efforts have been successful and it looks as if they are on the cusp of victory, false frontline reporting might once again become their downfall. Specifically, Russian military reporters are far exaggerating the success of their advances here. The areas where Russians are only infiltrating, Russians are already proclaiming as fully under their control. Similarly, Russians are claiming that Orikhiv itself is essentially fully captured as well, despite Russians in reality still only being present in the southeast. Currently, geolocations of Russian strikes show how Orikhiv and Ukrainian supply routes into the town are coming under heavy Russian air and artillery strikes. However, if false Russian reporting continues, these strikes might soon cease, as Russian artillery and air forces will not strike positions that the army has supposedly already captured, even if in reality Ukrainians still hold strong positions here. 

Additionally, less than thirty kilometers to the west of Orikhiv stands a large concentration of Ukrainian special forces units, including the elite forces of Ukraine’s military intelligence GUR.  These forces were just recently involved in the Ukrainian counterattacks that beat back a Russian advance on Zaporizhia city during the winter and spring months. The proximity of this battle-hardened force concentration to the renewed Russian offensive on Orikhiv might spell disaster for the now rather exposed Russian flanks. 

Overall, while Russians achieved significant successes in the first stages of their renewed offensive, they are already proclaiming victory before the battle has actually concluded. Similar to recent Russian defeats, it could well be that Russians have still not learned from their mistakes. While the presence of Ukrainian special operations forces on the western flank could result in yet another Ukrainian victory, the situation within the town itself is extremely difficult and should not be understated.

Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin wants peace. But Putin's own words and military orders tell a very different story. In a striking contrast between Washington's messaging and Moscow's actions, Putin calls for continued massive strikes against Ukraine, praises Russia's battlefield operations, and makes clear that key Russian security demands will not be open to peace negotiations.

Tonight, Greg Terry puts Trump and Putin's statements side by side and lets you decide. Putin’s Corporate Hostages: Why Russia Is Taking Oligarchs’ Firms and Western Businesses

I examine how Putin plans to finance a proposed 17.1 trillion-ruble military budget for 2027—an increase of roughly 27%—while Russia faces a projected 7.3 trillion-ruble deficit, rising taxes, costly borrowing, and treasury yields reaching 16.88%. With military and security spending set to account for 44% of projected spending, the Kremlin is shifting the burden onto households, businesses, and seized property.

I trace the coercive model through the cases of Konstantin Strukov’s gold assets, Vadim Moshkovich and Rusagro, Ilya Traber’s port interests, and the takeover of Makfa. I also look at the temporary management of Metro AG, Nestlé, Auchan, and former Leroy Merlin operations; the 471 billion rubles in supposedly voluntary billionaire contributions; and plans to sell confiscated assets. The strategic question is whether confiscation, debt, and pressure on private capital can sustain Putin’s war—or further hollow out Russia’s economy.

I examine the Washington Post’s reported four-part proposal for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine: reconstruction, Article V-style security guarantees, Russia’s economic reintegration with Europe, and a ceasefire along the existing line of control. The central question is who pays—and who gives up leverage. The proposal reportedly offers reconstruction without Russian reparations while contemplating renewed Russian oil and gas flows to Europe.

I also assess the reported Florida talks involving Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian officials, including pressure on Kyiv to stop striking Russian refineries and a possible Russian diesel arrangement. Putin’s reported demand for the remaining 11% of Donbas, uncertainty over missile-warning intelligence for Kyiv, Ukraine’s EU-accession progress, and continued attacks on energy infrastructure all expose the same problem: guarantees and ceasefires mean little without enforceable consequences when Russia violates them.
